NSW: Woods retains Clarence

Labor has picked up another seat in the New South Wales election after HARRY WOODS came out
on top after preferential counting in the north coast seat of Clarence.

Mr WOODS, who is the Minister for Regional Development, retained his seat despite a big
swing against him.

Returning officer for Clarence RAY ENDEAN says preferential counting of votes from the
March 27 election has Mr WOODS retaining his seat by just 143 votes.

Mr ENDEAN says the final figures had Mr WOODS with 16,467 votes while National Party
challenger STEVE CANSDELL finished with 16,324 votes.

Labor now holds Clarence, Bathurst and Cessnock and and has taken the seats of Tweed,
Murray-Darling and Northern Tablelands from the National Party.

The Liberals have also lost South Coast and Maitland to Labor with Albury still in doubt.

Labor now holds seven country seats -- up from four last term.

Two other seats, Monaro and Burrinjuck are still in question.
