SA: Student's fate still unclear say police

Adelaide police say the fate of missing Japanese student MEGUMI SUZUKI remains unclear
despite growing media speculation over whether she has met with foul play.

Detective Superintendent PAUL SCHRAMM says detectives have covered an enormous amount
of ground but are not about to scale down their three-week investigation.

Eighteen-year-old Ms SUZUKI was last seen by friends in Adelaide earlier this month.

Her disappearance was reported to police a few days later by officials from the college
where she was a language student.

Some of her belongings, including her school bag, were found by Adelaide's River Torrens.

But suggestions she is still alive gained some ground last weekend when police said
a man had reported seeing her at a suburban hotel.
